Last week, Giuseppe Celiberti – General Manager of IBSA Italy – and Andrea Maria Giori – Head of R&D & Medical Affairs of IBSA – were guests on the Rai – Radiotelevisione Italiana program "Casa Italia" to promote the FilmTec® technology

The debate, moderated by journalist and TV presenter Roberta Ammendola, highlighted the importance of innovation in drug development, with a particular focus on the research and development project on orodispersible films, developed in collaboration with the University of Milan.

During the interview, broadcast live across five continents (Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Oceania), a story of pharmaceutical research and development entirely Made in Italy was shared. This brand, synonymous with excellence and quality worldwide, is making a significant contribution to global health progress and the country’s competitiveness on the world stage. Thanks to production at the Cassina de’ Pecchi site, IBSA Italy now exports its products to over 80 countries, including the United States, with the ambitious goal of producing 100 million orodispersible films by 2025.

“Innovation is in our DNA. Thanks to the vision of our President and Founder of the Group, Dr. Arturo Licenziati, who will turn 90 this year, we have invested resources and energy in research and development from the very beginning, with a clear objective: to transform already known therapeutic solutions into innovative pharmaceutical forms and proven drug delivery systems to improve patient adherence to therapy. The FilmTec® technology is a clear example of our commitment,” says Giuseppe Celiberti, General Manager of IBSA Italy.

Orodispersible films, also known as orosoluble films or oral films, are a new form of oral dosage whose characteristics can improve treatment adherence for people with needs not met by capsules and tablets. These are small, thin, flexible sheets, similar to a stamp, that dissolve quickly upon contact with saliva. IBSA has selected maltodextrins as the main polymer, bringing to industrial scale a patented formulation platform that forms the basis of the IBSA FilmTec® technology.

“Orodispersible films have a long history that dates back many years. A technology that saw great university research but limited industrial implementation, and this is where we entered: combining university expertise with industrial knowledge, a synergy necessary for the development of this complex pharmaceutical form, entirely Made in Italy,” says Andrea Maria Giori, Head of R&D & Medical Affairs at IBSA.

Commitment to quality, research, and innovation is at the heart of every production process, thanks to a system that integrates the best industrial practices with constant updates to our technologies. Every stage of production, from design to distribution, is managed according to excellence standards to ensure safe and top-quality products.

In an increasingly competitive global context, we continue to passionately and dedicatedly pursue our mission to improve people’s health in every corner of the world, proudly representing a tangible example of Made in Italy.
